One of South Africa’s leading online retail companies, Takealot, is changing the brand name on its iconic delivery boxes for the first time in its 15-year history. As part of Heritage Month, the company’s name will appear in different versions across South Africa’s 12 official languages on millions of packages sent to customers nationwide. The campaign aims to highlight the country’s cultural diversity and the brand’s connection with local communities.

Takealot Boxes Will Reach Consumers in 12 Official Languages

As part of the campaign, different name versions such as Vatbaie, Tsayagolegontsi and Thath’okuningi will be used on Takealot delivery boxes. The company states that although the name on the boxes will change, its “Happy Delivered” brand promise will remain the same. Marketing Director Karla Levick said that the company logo is a valuable brand asset, but that in its 15th year, they chose to give space to the languages of the people who contributed to the company’s growth.

Founded in Cape Town in 2011, Takealot today operates an extensive e-commerce and retail network reaching all regions of South Africa. Through its Marketplace model, the company enables more than 13,000 businesses to reach customers, while handling one in every five deliveries made in the country.

The E-Commerce Experience Moves to Digital Channels

The campaign is not limited to physical delivery boxes. Through the digital experience created by the company, users can explore 12 different versions of the brand name, listen to the correct pronunciation of the words and learn more about South Africa’s official languages. In this way, the e-commerce delivery process and the digital retail experience come together within the same campaign.

Artificial Intelligence Is Being Used in Operations

Takealot Group reported in its financial results announced in June 2026 that it had deployed more than 2,500 active artificial intelligence agents to streamline operations across its e-commerce ecosystem. During the 2026 financial year, the group processed more than 60 million orders from over 6.2 million active customers and supported more than 30,000 small businesses through its platforms.

Winning Design Will Be Printed on One Million Boxes

The Heritage Design Challenge is being held for the fifth time this year. The winning design will be used on one million Takealot delivery boxes during the year-end period. The winner of the competition will receive shopping vouchers worth 100,000 rand, while an additional 10,000-rand voucher will be donated to a charity of their choice. As part of its collaboration with local musician Muzi, the company will also publish content introducing music genres unique to South Africa.
