Ozon Logistics Center Hit by Ukrainian Drone Attack

The logistics center of Ozon, one of Russia's leading e-commerce companies, in the southern Russian Republic of Adygea suspended operations following a fire caused by a drone attack. According to initial reports, no injuries were reported at the facility, where employees were evacuated. The company temporarily suspended the acceptance of goods from sellers and redirected shipments to its other warehouses.

A fire broke out at the distribution center of Russian e-commerce platform Ozon in the city of Adygeysk following a drone attack on the night of November 4. Murat Kumpilov, Head of the Republic of Adygea, confirmed the attack and announced that firefighters and emergency response teams had been dispatched to the area to extinguish the fire.

According to Ukrainian news outlet UNITED24 Media, footage shared from the scene showed damage to the facility's exterior and the partial collapse of its roof. The full extent of the damage and the date when the facility will resume operations remain unclear.

Ozon Redirects Orders to Other Logistics Centers

The company reported that all employees had been evacuated following the attack and that no injuries had been reported according to initial assessments. Ozon removed products stored at the fire-affected facility from online sale. It announced that orders that could not be fulfilled from the facility would be canceled, while orders for products available at other warehouses would be shipped from alternative centers.

The company also temporarily suspended the acceptance of new goods from sellers. Shipments already en route to the warehouse would be redirected to other logistics centers.

The Adygeysk facility, which began operations in 2023, is one of the major distribution centers in southern Russia. The facility is used for the storage, sorting, and distribution of products across the Southern and North Caucasian federal districts.

Estimated Cost of Drone Attacks Reaches $367 Million

The latest attack was recorded as part of an increasing number of drone operations targeting Russia's e-commerce logistics infrastructure. According to Reuters, the facility in Adygeysk had previously been targeted. Since July, numerous warehouses belonging to Ozon and its competitor Wildberries have been affected by attacks.

In its financial results released last week, Ozon reported that it expected drone attacks on 11 of its facilities to result in total losses of 30.1 billion rubles (approximately $367 million). This figure reflects the estimated cost disclosed before the latest attack. The company's shares were trading at 3,781 rubles on the Moscow Exchange as of 11:04 GMT on November 4, down 0.4%.

Attacks on Commercial Infrastructure Continue Between Russia and Ukraine

The administration of the Republic of Adygea reported that debris from drones falling during the attack caused damage in two residential areas, but no fatalities were reported. Ukraine did not issue a direct statement regarding the attack.

Reciprocal air attacks between Russia and Ukraine have also targeted energy, industrial, and commercial infrastructure in recent months. Russia carried out attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure on November 3, while Ukraine targeted an oil refinery in the Russian city of Yaroslavl on the night of November 2. The latest developments occurred ahead of peace talks scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi on November 10 to 11 under U.S. mediation.
