PayPal Launches AI-Powered E-Commerce Payments with Meta Muse
PayPal is integrating its payment infrastructure with Meta’s AI agent Muse, enabling users to discover products and complete purchases through AI. The partnership expands agentic commerce across PayPal’s global merchant network.

PayPal is integrating its payment infrastructure into Meta’s personal AI agent, Muse, as part of a partnership with Meta. With the new system, users will be able to search for products through Muse and complete purchases with PayPal merchants worldwide. The company stated that the partnership will extend across its global merchant network.
PayPal to Enable Payments Through Muse
PayPal stated that its partnership with Meta will allow customers to seamlessly shop and make payments using their personal Muse AI agents. The integration brings the “agentic commerce” model, in which AI agents find products and complete purchases on behalf of consumers, to PayPal’s global merchant network.
Launched on September 8, 2026, Muse differs from traditional chatbots by being able to perform actions on behalf of users. The AI agent can carry out tasks such as making travel reservations, filling out forms, and completing purchases, while requesting user approval for sensitive transactions such as payments.
Shopify Also Joins Meta’s E-Commerce Ecosystem
In addition to PayPal, Meta is expanding Muse’s retail and e-commerce capabilities through other payment and commerce platforms. When Muse was launched, it was integrated with Stripe’s Link payment system. Shopify later announced that it would bring Shop Pay to Muse. Through this integration, the AI agent will be able to find products in Shopify stores and complete purchases on behalf of users.
Shopify CEO Tobias Lütke described the partnership as a step aimed at simplifying the shopping and payment process through Muse. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, meanwhile, said when announcing the partnership that shoppers would be able to discover more products while stores would generate more sales, adding that similar partnerships would continue.
Amazon Blocks Meta Muse Access
E-commerce companies are taking different approaches to AI agents. While Shopify and PayPal are integrating with Muse, Amazon has blocked the AI agent from shopping on its platform. Amazon stated that access by an unauthorized AI agent violates the company’s terms of service.
Muse’s shopping ecosystem is therefore expanding through payment and retail infrastructure providers such as Stripe Link, Shopify Shop Pay, and PayPal, creating a new model in which AI agents can directly carry out e-commerce transactions from product discovery through to payment.
