Amazon has launched a program allowing customers to receive refunds without returning purchased products across five European marketplaces. Introduced in the final week of October 2026, the system covers sellers using Amazon's fulfillment services in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Under the voluntary program, sellers can make their products eligible for returnless refunds within specified price limits.
The system, known as “FBA Returnless Resolutions,” was previously introduced in the United States and aims to reduce logistics, storage, and product processing costs associated with returns for European sellers. Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) is a service provided by Amazon that covers the storage, packaging, and delivery of sellers' products to customers. The new program gives sellers using this service the option to process refunds without requiring the physical return of products.
Amazon Sets Maximum Threshold of €75 for Sellers
Sellers participating in the program can set the maximum price of products eligible for returnless refunds between €1 and €75 in European Union countries and between £1 and £75 in the United Kingdom. Sellers can apply the program to all eligible products or only to selected items.
Amazon evaluates refund requests on a product-by-product basis. The assessment considers the product's price and category, the customer's return history, and the seller's account status. Customers who meet the eligibility requirements receive a refund while keeping the product. Standard return procedures apply to other transactions.
Sellers Will Not Receive Compensation for Unreturned Products
The program allows sellers to save on return shipping and product processing expenses while leaving them responsible for the cost of products that are not returned.
According to Amazon's stated conditions, sellers will not receive inventory value compensation for products retained by customers. These transactions will continue to count toward sellers' product-level return rates. However, high return rate fees will not apply to these transactions. Sellers can enroll in the program and monitor the results of return transactions through the Seller Central management dashboard.
Sellers Raise Concerns Over Product Losses and Potential Abuse
The program has prompted discussions among some sellers regarding costs and potential misuse. According to a report published by Ecommerce News Europe on October 29, 2026, some sellers are questioning whether the savings generated by eliminating return processing will offset the value of products retained by customers.
Amazon, meanwhile, states that not every refund request is automatically approved and that customer history and established eligibility criteria are reviewed. Hazardous products, recalled goods, and certain bulky items are excluded from the program.
The new option may be particularly applicable to lower-priced products for which return shipping and restocking costs can approach the value of the product. However, participation in the program will remain voluntary for sellers, and each refund request will be evaluated individually against the established conditions.
