Dubai-based flydubai has decided to launch dedicated freighter aircraft operations to strengthen regional trade connectivity. The new operations, which will complement the company’s existing cargo transportation model carried out through the cargo holds of passenger aircraft, will provide additional air freight capacity for e-commerce shipments, retail products, express cargo, and regional supply chains. The company’s new move aims to support Dubai’s position as a regional and international logistics hub.

flydubai Expands Dedicated Cargo Operations

flydubai Cargo serves various freight categories, including general cargo, priority shipments, perishables, pharmaceuticals, valuable goods, courier shipments, and mail. With the new dedicated cargo operations, the company will benefit from freighter-only operations in addition to the existing belly cargo capacity on passenger flights. The company transported 60,400 tons of cargo in 2025. During the same period, the carrier’s network reached 140 destinations, while its fleet increased to 97 Boeing 737 aircraft.

Dubai Continues to Be a Hub for Regional Trade

The new cargo initiative aims to increase regional trade flows through Dubai. flydubai Cargo currently provides cargo acceptance and delivery services through Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport. DWC has dedicated cargo infrastructure for general, priority, perishable, and courier shipments.

The company had previously stated, as part of its collaboration with Dubai Chambers, that it aimed to increase local businesses’ access to international markets. Mohamed Hassan, Senior Vice President of Airport Services & Cargo, had said that the expanding cargo network was intended to provide Dubai-based companies with the logistics capacity they need to compete in global markets.

E-Commerce and Digital Cargo Infrastructure Are Strengthening

In addition to expanding physical capacity, flydubai continues to digitalize its cargo operations. Through its partnership with cargo.one, freight forwarders in 121 countries around the world can digitally access the company’s cargo capacity. The platform enables faster online booking and capacity management.

The company also uses artificial intelligence technologies in its operations. The AI- and IoT-powered platform developed by ZestIoT provides real-time visibility and predictive decision support in aircraft turnaround operations.

With the addition of dedicated freighter flights, flydubai plans to expand its air cargo capacity for e-commerce, retail, and express logistics shipments while also strengthening regional trade connections through Dubai.
